Poems by Aubrey O'Fallon
All she ever wanted was love
as she watched it paraded before her eyes
She used to be pure as the whitest dove
praying into the star filled sky
What happened to that star struck girl
She went off chasing a dream
But as the petals of the rose unfurled
her mouth twisted in a silent scream
She tried to buy the world for a dime
Tried to cheat her way to eternal bliss
And the toll she will pay for this crime
will haunt her as long as she exists
Longing is all she has ever known
Feeding off the hunger
The bits of her heart scattered and windblown
while she is not getting any younger
How many more black roses will she pick
until the garden’s empty
Her fingers, bloodied by the thorn’s prick
reaching out for sympathy
Still she will not give up the hope
should it eat her alive
It’s the only thing that helps her cope
she needs it to survive
